4 Keys To A Healthier, Happier Family in 2020

Children are one of the most precious gifts ever given to man, and as a family grows so does the responsibility of the caretakers. Looking after everyone’s health and wellness is no easy task. It is easy to get stuck in a rut when you feel like time never slows down for you, and children are getting caught up in unhealthy eating habits along with unhealthy lifestyle habits. It may just be a good idea to take a step back, reevaluate the way you are spending time as a family, and how much emphasis on nutrition is really taking place. The moment you start to change yourself, your children are more likely to follow suit.

Key #1

Schedule in Family Time

In a world that is so fast paced, it seems almost impossible to get even five minutes with your family to just hang out. Making a conscious effort to schedule in an evening where games are played, movies are watched, and just quality time in each other’s presence does wonders! Not only will this slow down your own personal world for a second, it makes your children feel like they are a priority and that family time really matters. They will be used to it, and pass it along to their own children someday.

Key #2

Try out New Foods

Every family has their “staple” recipes that get made each week, and if they do not get made in the home they are ordering them to go. Why not try out a completely new recipe, with foods you have never really tried before (or that your kids have never tried before). This will make for a fun trip to the grocery store, along with mixing up your weekly routines of cooking. Some may say, “My kids are too picky, and would never go for this idea.” Well then, have a backup meal planned in case the new and exciting meal fails! It’s always fun to have the kids try and cook too, whether it is on the weekends when you have more time or amongst your busy workweek.

Key #3

Spend More Time Outdoors

Embrace the weather in which you are given! If it is snow, opt to go make a snowman in the front yard, or take the sleds out to see some action. If you are living in the sunshine, your options are endless as you could go for a walk, bike ride, hike, or simply play a pick up game of basketball. No matter what the weather, make an effort to get outside and breathe in the fresh air with your family!

Key #4

Watch Your Sugar Consumption

If you take a look in your pantry right now and checked the sugar content in the foods you are buying you might be astonished. Sugar is everywhere, and we consume way more than we should on a daily basis. This poses problems in our mental focus, sleep, waistlines, and appetite in general. By making an effort to cut down on the sugar you and your family are consuming, it will be a great reward for your health and wellness long term!
